Storyline
Plot Summary:
A re-run of many of the gags from the original TV series Police Squad. An Airplane type spoof, this time with the an incompetent lieutenant (Drebin) who always gets his man. Visual gags come thick and fast, and its impossible to catch them all with one viewing. The plot.. Queen Elizabeth II of England is coming to town, and Vincent Ludwig has plans to assassinate her using a brainwashed baseball player.

All you can do is laugh
If you liked Airplane (and who didn't) then you'll love the story of Frank Drebin, the completely incompetant police detective. Leslie Nielsen takes centre stage is this hilarious comedy that's guaranteed to make you laugh. Sure it wont blow your mind, but the sight gags and one-liners are priceless
The Origin of Humor
One of the funniest movies ever made. The antics, jokes, gags, and obscure events in this movie made me laugh so hard I almost passed out. If you like funny movies or even if you don't, you'll like this movie.

"Naked Gun" is one of the few screw ball comedies that crack me upevery time. There's something in it, that just wont age willingly, itstays fresh. Or maybe it's just my sense of humor, or the the fabulousacting of Leslie Nielsen, I laugh every time when I watch it.Leslie Nielsen plays Drebin, a detective, who spills out hard boiledinner dialogue and keeps his stone cut expression no matter what. Hefights crime to the last. And with Drebin the crime wont last: itchurns up into a chaos. Priscilla Presly is Jane Specner, a secretaryof Vincent Ludwig (Ricardo Montalban) the bad guy of the film. Janealso is the la fem fetal whom Drebin falls head over heels. There is aplot about assassination of Queen Elizabeht II, but as this type ofcomedy works, the over all plot is pretty meaningless. And that's okay,at least for me: It's the humor that counts in this type of movies.David Zukcer has managed to milk everything from the movie, it is asfunny as it could be. I can't see any way to improved the film, it hasgags for everyone, be them fast sight gags or verbal juggling, or evenslap stick comedy. The bests scenes are, when someone is doingsomething seemingly important while Drebin or some else goofs up in thebackground, leading up in sheer stupidity and situations so absurd,that you just cannot help but to laugh

Leslie Neilson was outstanding in an abosultely hilarious movie. I just about laughed until I cried during the naked gun. Go buy it on DVD, it is HILARIOUS!

the funniest movie of alltime, classic
i didn't really rate airplane the first time i saw it, but i did loveleslie nielsen in it, i thought he was by far the funniest thing aboutit. so i saw the naked gun and i loved it, it is the funniest movie ofalltime period, leslie nielsen as frank drebin is legendary and is oneof the best characters of cinema period, a tad more aware than he wasin police squad but just as funny, leslie nielsen really is a joy towatch hear, and it really will have you rolling on the floor, it isn'tworth going into the plot trust me, but thats not what makes thesekinds of movies, trust me the naked gun is the funniest comedy ofalltime period and will always be.

Frank Drebin is a cop on the trail of the world's worst terrorists andafter a major successful operation returns to the United States, onlyto be upstaged by Weird Al Yankovic! This is the madcap world thatFrank Drebin inhabits, a world where scientists find the ultimatedeterrent for Graffiti artists, where a cop can fall into a birthdaycake and a mantrap and both can be as bad as the other and a placewhere you take a risk when you cross a street or stick your face in afan.However, when it comes to danger it's nothing compared to the attemptedassassination of Queen Elizabeth during her forthcoming state visit. AsDrebin's investigations continue he begins to suspect that respectedindustrialist Vincent Ludwig is connected to the plot and, against hissuperior's wishes he undertakes a lone crusade in order to prove hispoint.This is the best of the naked gun films and Leslie Neilsen's deliveryis free from the over the top looks that so mark out his later turns inthe role of Drebin, and the script unlike, the second film containsfewer references from the Police Squad series, with many good gags andmemorable moments. As such this makes for an entertaining slice ofhokum that leaves one with a smile of your face when you stop watchingit.While it's not as good as the immense "Airplane" it is still worthy ofa watch and very entertaining.
one of my favorite films
The Naked Gun is hilarious. It's the kind of movie that you can watchoverand over again and still laugh hysterically. Montalban is brilliant, andoverall I think the movie is much funnier than the TV show(Police Squad).It includes some interesting foreshadowing with O.J. Simpson playingNordberg, a cop who gets nearly shot to death while prowling around in anall black costume at night. This movie is far funnier than any of theSaturday Night Live spin-offs or anything by Adam Sandler, Mike Meyers orChris Farley(RIP).
Zany and Outrageous
Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker have produced another zany and outrageouscomedy. This time we follow the misadventures of cop Frank Drebin(Leslie Nielsen), a character portrayed in the TV series "PoliceSquad". Hence the full title of the movie: "The Naked Gun - from theFiles of Police Squad".This 'Z.A.Z.' film has its moments, but few are absolutely hilarious aswere the many fine comedy moments in both "Top Secret" and "FlyingHigh". Look out for the scene where Drebin searches his partner'sjacket by mistake, the definite highlight. Great comedy from the Zucker brothers. Nielson at his best, and even O.J. when he was still liked by the public. A must have for any comic fan.
Frank Drebin on Blu Ray!
This review is from: Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) 'The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad' has it's own special place among the better 80's comedies. The great Leslie Neilson and George Kennedy cracking wise, Ricardo Montalban doing his very best Corinthian Leather schtick and Priscilla Presley looking fit for a King.! All this and OJ Simpson too as "Nordberg" who is repeatedly and severely inured throughout the film. What's not to like? 'The Naked Gun' holds up to repeated viewings and never fails to extract at last 10 belly laughs and many more assorted snickers and guffaws. A really great comedy from Jim Abrahams and the Zucker brothers!With that said, this review will focus on the video and audio quality of the Blu Ray presentation, rather than the film itself.So how does 'The Naked Gun stack up on Blu Ray? Really good as a matter of fact! Resolution is much improved over previous VHS, DVD and cable 1080i broadcasts. While not reference quality and sporting more than just a little digital noise from time to time, this is a solid catalog title transfer.Colors are right on the money with what appears to be the original color timing kept intact. No revisionist color correction here! Good contrast/brightness levels all around and the only time excessive grain gets in the way is during the opening sequence since the title credits were added optically rather than digitally. One you get to the "Directed by" credit, the next cut reveals a nice rich picture that stays with you throughout the film. Sadly this transfer does not exhibit much depth but I was not expecting miracles here.A nice 1080p AVC transfer with a generous bit rate and no noticeable encoding errors. DNR doesn't seem to be an issue here and I actually ADDED just a bit from my Oppo/Marvell processor to smooth out some of the digital noise that kept cropping up. Most people will not even notice it.Compared to such terrible transfers like '48 Hours' or the original 'Arthur' this disc shines like demo material.****** Many review sites give this transfer poor marks, but the film was not an epic production and this transfer reflects that fact. It just isn't anywhere near as bad as a few sites/reviewers have made it out to be. 3 and 3/4 stars at the high end (out of 5) and perhaps it dips down to 3 off and on. No biggie! I personally was never annoyed with the shortcomings of this disc. It is what it is.Ok, the picture quality of this transfer is pretty good, how about the sound?You get a decent DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix. This is not 'Lord of the Rings' folks so going into this I didn't expect much from the audio. I was pleasantly surprised. The scoring sounds great, in fact all the music and included songs really shine on this disc. Yeah, the dialogue can sound a bit flat now and then but it is understandable and clear enough for me. I honestly have not heard it sound this good since my original viewing at the local theater and with my current surround system I doubt it even sounded this good back then. The iconic and beloved theme song for this film kicks some serious butt here! I found myself sitting straight up in my chair and hollering when it kicked in! YEAH BABY, YEAH! Great to hear it again and sounding SO pristine and punchy!Ok, how about included extras? HA HA Surely you jest! (and don't call me Shirley) Oops wrong movie! OK, you get the movie, and errr, the trailer in HD with a major spoiler included (WT*??) and a really REALLY funny commentary track featuring insights and witticisms by Robert Weiss, Peter Tilden and David Zucker !The commentary is just as entertaining (for fans) as the movie and you simply MUST listen to it at least once! Prepare to be amused.'The Naked Gun' comes to Blu Ray in a bare bones package but still packs many laughs and for real fans of this film you will NOT be disappointed with what is provided here. Yeah, it isn't a pristine 4K scan from the original camera negative, but hey, it's got Frank Drebin in HD! Recommended!

Really good film, I liked this one!I recently bought the boxed set, (all 3 films) and really enjoyed watchingthem again. I have to admit though, I did not quite laugh as much as I didwhen I first watched them.I remembering watching them the first time and thinking "What the hell am Iwatching? This is MAD! hahaha lol. All the bits like Frank hitting stuffwith his car every time he parks and the bit with Nordberg at the start -classic!Really good light-hearted fun...7 out of 10

Leslie Nielsen plays incompetent, senile Lieutenant Frank Drebin ofPolice Squad, who must stop a plot to assassinate the Queen of Englandon American soil. The movie is a spoof of police, detective, secretagent movies, making fun of every possible cliché. Leslie Nielsendelivers some of the most immature punchlines with a straight face andgenerally transforms immaturity and lack of judgment into a craft,creating a new icon for the video generation. The gags come so closelyone after another, you will discover new meanings even after multipleviewings of this movie. Practically every line is a memorable quote,especially for those passionate about movies, who will get them at aneven deeper level than occasional moviegoers (for example the -laughing exiting the theater where "Platoon" was screening - scene).
One of the funniest movies... ever!
I usually like to rent movies at least twice a month. The only catch isthat I don't like taking my friends, because I like to read and I knowthis sounds silly, but concentrate on the movies that I'd like to see.Just because I don't like to see movies that I know will be bad. But myfriends and I were out and I mentioned how I was going to rent moviesthat night. They asked if they could come, and I couldn't say "no".That would just be horrible to say, and especially with my sillytheory. I saw "Naked Gun" sitting there, and my friend asked me if Iever saw this movie, and I said "no". She said that this would be themovie to watch for a good laugh. So, I decided for once to let go andrent. I was glad that I did. This is by far one of the funniest moviesI have seen. You can't take it seriously, but that's what I love aboutit. It's a great movie. I would recommend it for comedy lovers.10/10

*Possible Spoilers* The Naked Gun is one of the funniest movies ever. From the producersof "Airplane," this film is a hilarious look at Police work. Nielsen is greatas Frank Drebin. The film has a number of silly things happen in it. Especially whenDrebin disguises himself as an umpire. I also love it when everytime Frankparks his car, he hits something. That's great. The scene where Frank breaksinto Ludwigs office and finds all sorts of interesting things in there. Thisis a great comedy. If you liked "Airplane" you're gonna like this. ***1/2 out of****
